The Auditor General of B.C. will investigate the province’s response to the 2021 wildfire that destroyed virtually the entire Village of Lytton.
In a video posted to Youtube Wednesday, Auditor General Michael Pickup announced his team has started examining the provincial government’s role in the town’s ongoing recovery.
The Lytton Creek wildfire burned through more than 100 properties in the village and 80,000 hectares of land in the surrounding region.
Pickup said his office’s examination is focused on three areas: the province’s responsibilities for disaster recovery; the province’s support and funding for recovery; and opportunities for improvement.
The AG will put together a report, due in early 2025, that is expected to determine whether B.C. government acted quickly enough in the aftermath.
