Special weather statement issued for Coquihalla Highway due to flurries

It may look like spring around the Lower Mainland, but anyone planning to head out on the Coquihalla Highway Sunday or Monday should prepare for winter-like conditions.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for the stretch of highway between Hope and Merritt due to flurries over high elevation mountain passes. Some areas are expecting snowfall accumulation.

“Snow levels will remain at or below mountain pass levels in southern B.C. from tonight into Monday,” the statement said.

“A Pacific frontal system is approaching the South Coast. It will cross through B.C. tonight and exit by late Monday.”

It stresses that weather can change at any time, resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

The statement is in effect through Monday.
