The pressure is on for Funkanometry, a hip hop duo from Vancouver Island. The dancers, who are both in their early 20s, have made it to the final round of Canada’s Got Talent.

A Vancouver Island dance duo is hoping their talent will help them bring in a massive prize, with Funkanometry making it to the Canada’s Got Talent finale.

Funkanometry, which was formed by Jacksun Fryer and Carlow Rush, advanced to the CGT finale with a performance that impressed the judges on Tuesday, May 8.

“I think you are the act that I want to see over and over and over again,” judge Lilly Singh said.

“You guys are dancers, you are storytellers, you are comedians, you are performers, and, in my opinion, you are exactly what our million-dollar season needed,” added judge Trish Stratus.

This isn’t Funkanometry’s first claim to fame. According to the Hip Hop and Popping group, they were scouted for NBC’s World of Dance in 2019, wowing judges Jennifer Lopez, Ne-Yo, and Derek Hough.

They were scouted for America’s Got Talent in 2022.

Over the years, the pair has also dominated social media channels, with their videos being shared widely online. They even performed in front of Rogers Arena before Game 6 of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, when the Canucks eventually advanced to the second round with a win over the Edmonton Oilers.

The pair says they are feeling all sorts of emotions leading up to the finale.

“I think for the most part right now, I want to focus on one, and that’s determination,” Fryer said.

“I just want to be ready for it.”

“I’m kind of nervous, but I don’t like to tell myself that ever, so I’m just feeling ready, and I want to absolutely kill it out there,” said Rush.

“I don’t like thinking about the outcome yet, so all I can do it focus on this performance.”

It was their videos being shared online that caught the attention of Canada’s got Talent.

“They saw one of our TikTok Videos and then reached out to us to come on the show,” Rush said. “I remember thinking this was fake — spam, almost.”

The pair met eight years ago at a dance studio on Vancouver Island, and they say they have their teacher to thank for inspiring them.

This year, Rogers is giving the Canada’s Got Talent winner $1 million, which the company says is “the largest cash prize in Canadian television history.”

You can catch the CGT finale on Tuesday, May 14.
