Police watchdog called in after man fatally shot by police in Mackenzie, B.C.

The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO BC) has been called in after a man was fatally shot in Mackenzie, B.C.

Mounties say on Saturday around 2 p.m., they received a report of a man trying to cash a fraudulent cheque at a bank.

When officers arrived, they arrested the man.

“While escorting the man outside a struggle ensued and the man reportedly produced a weapon,” the RCMP said.

“One officer discharged their firearm striking the man.”

The man was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The RCMP says that since IIO has taken over the investigation, no further information will be released.
