Squamish SAR’s BJ Chute tells CityNews they were alerted Friday evening to assist.

“We have to operate under the assumption that it’s still an active search at this point, but we haven’t had any contact with them,” Chute said.

“These were experienced mountaineers, not just passive hikers, so they are quite capable to be in the technical terrain in which we believe they are in.”

The Squamish RCMP has also been involved in the search.

Crews have been searching the area with a helicopter and local mountain guides, and they have also called in the Royal Canadian Airforce 442 squadron.

The search has been hampered due to inclement weather in the extremely remote and difficult area, and there are extreme avalanche conditions in the area, Mounties say.
