The search for an Abbotsford man who went missing after he went rowing on the Sumas River Wednesday evening has ended in tragedy.

Const. Art Stele of the Abbotsford Police Department says the body of the 65-year-old rower was discovered Saturday by dive-teams in the area where the rower was last reported to have been.

No foul play is suspected, Stele says.

The man had been reported missing Wednesday around 6:30 p.m.. He had been last seen paddling in the Sumas River along Quadling Road, close to McDonald Park and No. 3 Road.

Stele says no further details will be provided out of respect for the man’s family.
