Vancouver Police warning public about high risk offender being released in community

A man convicted of stabbing a tourist at a Tim Horton’s coffee shop has been released from custody and will be living at a Vancouver halfway house, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says.
Police are warning the public that 30-year-old David Morin is a high risk to re-offend.
Morin was sentenced to a three-year prison term in June 2022 but has been granted parole.
“The Vancouver Police Department has now been informed that Morin has been granted statutory release by Correctional Service Canada and will be allowed to live in Vancouver while on parole,” the VPD said in a news release.
“Police believe Morin poses a high risk of significant harm to the community, and that compelling circumstances exist to warn the public that he will be living in Vancouver.”
He is described as 6’3″ with a medium build, short black hair, and brown eyes.
He is required to abide by a number of release conditions, and will be found in breach if he consumes, purchases, or possesses alcohol or drugs, associates with any person involved with criminal activity, has any contact with his victim. As well, he is required to immediately report all relationships and friendships with females to his parole supervisor.
Anyone who sees Morin breaching his conditions is asked to contact police immediately.
