VPD identifies suspect in violent assault on sex worker

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says it has identified a suspect in the violent assault of a sex worker in the Downtown Eastside Monday.

Police located the suspect early Thursday evening while patrolling Oppenheimer Park.

“Officers have now seized the man’s vehicle and are continuing to investigate,” the VPD said in a news release.

“The suspect cannot be identified because charges have not yet been laid.”

On Thursday, police said the woman had been picked up near East Hastings Street and Campbell Avenue and assaulted with a weapon.

She was then reportedly pushed out of the vehicle near Oppenheimer Park.

Police say two passersby found the victim and helped her to report the crime.

The VPD is warning women in the Downtown Eastside to remain vigilant.
