Family searches for tripod dog missing in Golden Ears Park

A family has reached out online for help locating their family pooch, a three-legged dog named Judith.

Judith was last seen on Wednesday in the parking lot of South Beach in Golden Ears Park around 7 or 8 p.m., according to a post on Facebook by Scent Rescue Team, a group that uses scent tracking animals to find lost pets.

The team says the tripod — the name the SPCA uses for a three-legged dog — was seen taking one of the trails and never returned.

Judith’s owner, Julia Mathias, tells CityNews she and Judith were at a designated dog area when Judith got startled by something and started running away.

“We tried to catch her, but she was very, very fast, so she went all the way up from the beach to the parking lot,” Mathias said. “She went all the way left through the parking lot, and she took the road. She took the street to the main road, and that’s where we lost we lost track of her.”

Mathias says they stayed at the beach all night waiting for Judith’s return.

In a post on social media Thursday morning, the Scent Rescue Team said it was heading back to the area for a second day of searching.

“We have posters around the park, the whole park, and then we have people doing trails after trails and just spreading the word around the park and the community as well,” Mathias said.

The four-year-old dog was wearing a blue harness with a green leash. She is microchipped.

Mathias said Judith is friendly, but if you see her don’t chase or call out.

“Our recommendation for whoever may spot her is like, don’t try to approach her directly, because she might feel that she’s being chased and take off again,” Mathias said.

“So just stay there. Don’t make too much contact. Wait for her to get curious, approach for maybe a pet or something, and then if you can catch her, great. If you can’t just, let us know where was the last time you saw her.”

Mathias says her family adopted Judith from the SPCA two years ago.

“When we adopted her, she had just removed her leg 20 days before, so she’s a tripod, and she’s very sweet,” Mathias said.

“She’s adorable, but she gets scared sometimes.”

Judith is not the first dog to go missing in the area recently. Earlier this week, a goldendoodle named Shampoo reportedly got lost in the same park, according to lost pet site Pawboost.
