Motorcyclist dies after crash in North Vancouver, RCMP says

Police say a motorcyclist is dead after a single-vehicle crash in North Vancouver Saturday evening.

The RCMP says at around 10 p.m. it received reports from the BC Ambulance Service of a “serious single-vehicle collision” that involved a motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, a North Vancouver resident in his 20s crashed into a concrete retaining wall on Low Level Road near St. Patrick’s Avenue and died on the scene, Corp. Ian Sim told CityNews.

“We have a number of witnesses who witnessed the young driver of this motorcycle passing them at a high rate of speed, going eastbound, lose control of the bike, the motorcycle, and he hit the retaining wall on the right-hand side, the south side, which is made of cement on the bottom and steel on the top,” he said.

“And they say it appeared that he lost control, was unable to regain control of the bike, and hit the retaining wall at a high rate of speed.”

Sim says next of kin have been notified.

“This was an extremely tragic incident and we’d like to express our sincere condolences to the man’s family during this difficult time,” said Const. Mansoor Sahak, spokesperson for the North Vancouver RCMP.

“The investigation is currently ongoing and the North Vancouver RCMP Victim Services unit has been engaged to support those who have been affected by this tragedy.”

Mounties say that Low Level Road was closed for several hours following the collision as the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) was gathering evidence after the incident.
