Two taken to hospital after North Vancouver apartment fire

Two people were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation after a fire at an apartment building Thursday evening, the City of North Vancouver Fire Department says.

Fire Chief Greg Shaw says crews were called out to the mid-rise apartment building on Lonsdale Avenue near 5th Street around 7 p.m.

“The fire is out. We are just doing some cleanup, working with the residents of the building,” Shaw told CityNews just after 9 p.m.

“There were a couple residents that went to hospital for smoke inhalation.”

He says the fire was on one of the upper levels of the apartment building. Video posted on social media appears to show flames coming out of a window about two-thirds of the way up the building.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
