New West police investigating after man’s body found in recycling depot

Police say they are investigating after a man’s remains were discovered in a New Westminster recycling facility Thursday.
Sgt. Andrew Leaver says police received reports of a deceased man at Urban Impact Recycling, which is located on Capilano Way close to the Fraser River, around 6:30 p.m.
They are now working to determine the circumstances that led to the grisly discovery, Leaver says.
“Being so early in the investigation, it’s too early to determine the cause of death,” he said.
“We’re unable to speak to any of those details right now.”
He says investigations like this can take up to several weeks.
“We will engage the BC Coroners Service,” he said.
“Working in partnership with them could be a lengthy process, just because of the amount of information that needs to be gathered.”
There are no concerns for public safety at this time, he says.
