Man punched in alleged stranger assault in Richmond: RCMP

The Richmond RCMP is looking to identify a suspect in an alleged “unprovoked stranger assault” earlier this week.

Mounties say they received reports of the assault along No. 3 Road south of Westminster Highway just after noon on Tuesday, July 2. The victim reported to police that he had been walking in the area when he was punched in the face by a man he did not know.

The victim suffered minor physical injuries and was treated at the scene, police add.

“During the subsequent investigation, Richmond RCMP Bike Unit officers determined the suspect had entered a local area mall at approximately 11:20 a.m. and exited at approximately 11:57 a.m. It was after exiting the mall that he allegedly committed the assault,” the Richmond RCMP said Friday.

According to investigators, the suspect was last seen walking north on No. 3 Road toward Westminster Highway.

“This is a busy time of day in the downtown core of Richmond so we believe there are people out there who witnessed this assault or the events leading up to it,” said Corp. Adriana O’Malley.

The suspect is described as being 5’9″ tall with a heavy build. He was wearing a grey long-sleeve shirt, black pants, white and blue Jordan 11 runners, and was carrying a white backpack at the time of the reported incident.

The RCMP is asking anyone with information to contact police at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2024-20647. Crime Stoppers can also be contacted anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
