Kelowna RCMP investigating report of drowning in Okanagan Lake

The Kelowna RCMP says it is investigating after receiving a report of a drowning in Okanagan Lake.

Mounties say they were called out around 4:30 a.m. Saturday after a report that a man had drowned near the Kelowna Downtown Marina.

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue and the Kelowna Fire Department came to the scene but were unable to find the man’s body.

The RCMP said its Underwater Recovery Team will be used to find the man.

“Police are asking the public to stay away from the area of the marina to allow this important work to continue,” said media relations officer Sgt. Laura Pollock.

“Please keep all marine traffic 100 feet away from the marina and reduce wake in the area.”

While they don’t know the cause of death, police say it does not appear suspicious.
