Police search for Alberta man swept away by river near Kamloops

Mounties are searching for a man who was swept away in the North Thompson River about 20 kilometres north of Kamloops Friday afternoon after jumping in to rescue two youths who were starting to get carried away.
Officers from the Kamloops RCMP say they were called out to an area of the river near the Tournament Capital Ranch just after 3 p.m. after a report of a man being stuck in the river.
50-year-old Stan Cappis of Red Deer and a friend jumped into the river to help the youths.
“Stan’s friend and the youths were able to get to the shore; however, Stan was swept away,” said Sgt. Janelle Shoihet.
“He was last seen rounding the bend of the river.”
The RCMP says it used police dogs and air services to try to find Cappis. The Forensic Identification Section, Kamloops Fire and Rescue, and several civilians also joined the search.
Cappis is described as having dark hair and an athletic build and was last seen wearing shorts and sunglasses.
Anyone who lives near the area is asked to keep an eye out for Cappis and call the Kamloops RCMP with any information.
Police say they will continue working with Kamloops Search and Rescue to try to find the man.
