Guilty plea entered in fatal 2021 Whistler stabbing

A man accused in a 2021 stabbing in Whistler that left a 26-year-old dead has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says Dedaar Jhooty entered his plea in North Vancouver Provincial Court Tuesday in connection with the death of Henry Garcia Molina.

IHIT says police were called to investigate after a verbal altercation escalated near Whistler Village on Aug. 14, 2021. Investigators say Molina was waiting for a cab with a friend when the confrontation began between the friend and a group of males.

Molina was ultimately stabbed and would later die of his injuries.

Just days after his death, Molina’s family and police put out calls to the public for help.

“Henry’s life did not deserve to be taken away so brutally,” the family wrote in a previous statement shared by police.

The homicide team said at the time of the incident that it had identified “several persons of interest,” and that there were likely “multiple individuals involved in the murder.”

Jhooty was arrested in June of 2022 and later charged with manslaughter.

His sentencing hearing is expected to be scheduled “in the near future.”
