Attempted Yaletown arson being investigated by Vancouver Police

The Vancouver Police Department had a section of a popular Yaletown block cordoned off Friday, after what it described as “attempted arson.”

Officers are in the area of Hamilton and Davie streets.

In a statement, the VPD says, “It appeared there was an object that was meant to be set on fire, but it never took.”

No damage or injuries have been reported.

Police say there have not been any arrests made in relation to the incident.

The incident happened along the same stretch of Hamilton Street where a popular bar was targeted by a drive-by shooting last week.

Police have not said whether the two incidents are related, saying “it’s too early to say if it’s connected prior shootings, if this is gang related, or if it’s a prank of some sort.”
