Motorcyclist dies after being hit by fire truck on Stanley Park Causeway

One person has died in a crash involving a motorcycle and a firetruck in Stanley Park Saturday afternoon.

Vancouver Fire Rescue Services confirmed that despite the best efforts by emergency personnel, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

VFRS says the “multi-vehicle” accident occurred near Lost Lagoon on the Stanley Park Causeway while fire crews were responding to a call.

The incident forced the closure of the causeway and Lions Gate Bridge, though both had reopened as of 5:45 p.m. Saturday.

“Our crews respond to other people’s emergencies every day in this city, to be involved in such a tragic incident while responding is heartbreaking,” said VFRS Chief Karen Fry.

Vancouver police say investigators believe the motorcyclist was was travelling in the opposite direction when they collided with another vehicle and was then struck by the oncoming fire truck.

Drivers can expect heavy traffic in the area as congestion eases.

Officials say “a full investigation will take place to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
