A homicide investigation is under way in Maple Ridge, after a woman who was found bleeding died of her injuries Sunday afternoon.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) told CityNews Monday it was still working to confirm the victim’s identity.
IHIT says the Ridge Meadows RCMP was called to the area of 232 Street and 132 Avenue for reports of “an unidentified female who was bleeding” around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Despite the efforts of first responders, the woman died of her injuries about an hour later.
Few details, including the nature of the woman’s injuries, are available at this time.
“It is very early on in the investigation and it is ongoing, but we do ask anybody that was in the area of 232 Street and 132 Avenue in Maple Ridge between 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. or even earlier to contact us,” said IHIT’s Corp. Sukhi Dhesi.
So far, no arrests have been made. However, IHIT says there’s no reason to believe there are any threats to the public at this time.
“From the early stages of the investigation, we believe that there are no threats to the public at this time. If that changes, obviously we will let the public know,” said Dhesi.
IHIT is asking anyone with information to contact its Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
