Port Coquitlam Fire Chief Blake Clarkson says neither of the two homes has a fire alarm system.

“When we arrived on the scene, the structures were fully involved, so crews did a good job handling the presented situation,” he said.

Clarkson says a man in the home where the fire started was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.

He says one firefighter was also injured by falling debris.

Clarkson tells CityNews that fire crews are still actively working on the fire.

“As soon as they’re done we’ll have our fire investigators go in there and look for the cause,” he said.

He says no cause has been determined yet but witnesses tell CityNews that it was likely accidental.
