The provincial NDP has announced three new candidates who will replace longstanding incumbents in the upcoming October general election.
In a release Wednesday, the BC NDP said veteran party members Rob Fleming, Harry Bains, and Bruce Ralston will step down, making way for Nina Krieger, Jessie Sunner, and Amna Shah to run in their respective ridings.
Nina Krieger is running in Victoria-Swan Lake, where she will replace Rob Fleming who has served as MLA since 2006. Krieger is currently executive director of the Vancouver Holocaust Museum.
Jessie Sunner will replace Harry Bains as the candidate for Surrey-Newton. Bains served as MLA of that riding since 2005. Sunner is a trade unionist and human rights lawyer.
Amna Shah, a board member of the Surrey Food Bank, will replace Bruce Ralston as the candidate for Surrey-Whalley where he has served as MLA since 2005.
“These are three impressive candidates, and each one is an excellent addition to our BC NDP team,” said Premier and Party Leader David Eby.
The party says the three new candidates are running unopposed and will be acclaimed by their BC NDP Electoral District Associations in August.
The provincial election is scheduled for October 19, 2024.
Editor’s note: This article has been corrected to state Sunner will run in the Surrey-Newton riding, and Shah will run in the Surrey-Whalley riding.
