Several road closures, detours in place for Celebration of Light event Saturday

Vancouver’s annual Celebration of Light fireworks celebration continues this weekend, with the United Kingdom set to wrap up the series Saturday evening.

Drivers in the area are advised that several roads are closed for the event, which is expected to draw upwards of half a million spectators.

Expect delays in both the West End and Kits Point, the City of Vancouver says.

The following roads are affected by the event:

WEST END:

Full road closures from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m.:

Stanley Park restricted access from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.:

Traffic controls in effect from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

KITS POINT:

Full road closures from 6 p.m. to midnight:

The City of Vancouver says the parking lots at Kits Beach, Hadden Park, and Vanier Park will be closed. Vehicles towing boats won’t be permitted into Kits Point after trailer parking is full at the Vanier Park boat launch.

As well, that Vancouver Police Department says anyone flying drones in the area risks fines and criminal charges and could have their equipment seized.
