Delta police seeking witnesses to River Road crash

Police in Delta are looking for witnesses and dashcam footage from a crash on River Road that sent a man to hospital with serious injuries Monday.

The Delta Police Department says officers responded to reports of a crash between a Volkswagen Jetta and a semi truck on River Road between Alexander Road and 92nd Street around 8 a.m.

The DPD says the Jetta became wedged under the tractor trailer and the driver of the Jetta sustained critical injuries.

Acting Insp. James Sandberg said Tuesday the driver was still in hospital receiving care.

“I believe the other driver is unharmed,” Sandberg said Monday, adding police are unsure if the wet weather was a factor in the collision.

“Historically, when we have dry spells followed by a wet burst or a little bit of rain, the roads do become a little bit more slippery,” he explained. “There’s the oils on the roads that come up to the surface. So, it is always wise to err on the side of caution, drive defensively, and bring your speeds down.”

River Road was closed to traffic for hours into Monday afternoon as the DPD investigated the crash.

The DPD is now asking for the public’s help with the investigation.

“If you witnessed the collision or saw the vehicles involved prior to the crash … Additionally, if you have dash camera footage, Tesla video, or photographs of the collision or the pre-collision driving of the vehicles, please reach out to our investigators,” said Sandberg.

If you have information or footage to share, you can contact the DPD at (604) 946-4411 and quote file number 2024-13943.
