Family issues plea for help in their search for missing Coquitlam man

Family and friends of a Coquitlam man who has been missing since last week are gathering Monday to search for him.

39-year-old Nabeel Kessani was last seen near his home in the area of Blue Mountain Street and Austin Avenue around 10 p.m. Wednesday, July 31.

His family says it is very out of character for him to go missing like this, and they are very concerned for his wellbeing. His wife, Nilofar Nathani, tells 1130 News Radio he was under a lot of stress and may be lost or disoriented and may have walked somewhere.

People involved with the search say his car was found by King Edward Street near the Fraser River.

However, the search is taking place in the area where his phone pinged for the last time, which was on the other side of the river, around 124th Street and Industrial Road in Surrey.

Nathani says that while the police are investigating, she is asking them to expedite their search of CCTV camera footage in the areas they are looking for him.

“We really want the police to get the footage for us,” she said. “There is no footage coming along, even for the Austin Avenue tower that we live in, there was no footage collected until like the next day, which is not fair for us. They should have collected footage from the building at least what time he left, where he went, and stuff.”

She says there are many cameras outside around the building they live in where he would have entered and exited.

“That can give us more clear idea what he might be thinking, how he was walking, if he was the one who got the car,” she said.

“So that’s what we want from the police.”

Kessani’s mother, Hasina Kessani, believes her son suffered from a panic attack and admitted himself to the emergency room a few days prior to his disappearance, due to stress from work. Kessani, himself a nurse at the Royal Columbian Hospital, had told her he was having severe chest pain.

“So they did all the checking. He was asking for medication to calm him down, but they didn’t give him anything, and they sent him home and told him to relax,” she said.

Kessani is 6’2″ with a medium build. He has short black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a dark grey and black rain jacket, and black runners with white soles.

Anyone who may have seen Kessani or who has any informations is asked to call the Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2024-20005. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
