Maltipoo mauled to death by a big dog on Vancouver’s Second Beach

A Langley family is asking for help after their dog was allegedly mauled to death by a bigger dog on Second Beach on in Vancouver Monday evening. Kate Walker reports.

A Metro-Vancouver family is asking for help after their dog was allegedly mauled to death by a bigger dog on Second Beach on Monday evening.

Andrea Jagdeo says her Maltipoo — a cross between a Maltese dog and a poodle — was attacked by an off-leash, larger dog around 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 5.

She says the bigger dog’s owner ran off with her dog and was “being chased by the crowd” of people on the beach and she was unable to identify her.

The Vancouver Police Department confirmed it “responded to calls at Second Beach for a dog that had bitten another dog.”

Police say Animal Services have taken over the investigation and will contact VPD if assistance is needed.

Jagdeo says she thinks there is a lack of laws in Vancouver for dog owners.

“Richmond has stronger laws, we found out talking to a lot of people online that aggressive dogs must be leashed and muzzled at all times, when in public,” she said.

Jagdeo says it is now her mission for Sky to put these laws in place and to “see some justice happen.”

In photos posted to social media, the bigger dog owner appears to be running from the scene. Jagdeo and her family are asking anyone who recognizes the person in the photo to contact the VPD.

“I am praying and hoping that with the help of social media, with all these outlets that we have nowadays that she will be caught,” Jagdeo said. “If not, I hope that she turns herself in.”

The dog owner says she understands that the other dog owner must be scared for her dog, but should do the right thing and let her family have closure.

“Please share and comment below any information you have on this person! We need justice for Sky,” Jagdeo wrote.

Jagdeo says Sky always made everyone smile and “was the life of the party.”

She says Sky would have turned three-years-old this year.

“I can already feel her energy around us watching over us.”
