‘No risk’ when Maple Ridge daycare provider left kids unattended: RCMP

The Ridge Meadows RCMP says there was no wrongdoing when a daycare provider left some children outside a salon Tuesday.

A Facebook post with a photo showing a group of children standing outside a nail salon was shared on a community group. The post suggested that a daycare provider was seen sitting inside the salon with “her back against the children.”

“Do any of these kids belong to you? I was walking down Dewdney to see them all in front of GND nails without an adult,” the post read.

“I asked them if there was anyone watching them and they pointed to the nail salon.”

The person who shared the post says they went inside the salon and told the daycare provider “she can’t be leaving kids unattended on the side of Dewdney Trunk Road.” The person claims the daycare provider refused to give them the name of her daycare.

Mounties say they looked into it, spoke to those involved, and determined from security footage that the provider was inside for just three minutes.

“Police have determined that there was no risk to the children and that no Criminal Code offence was committed,” said the RCMP in a statement to 1130 NewsRadio

They add that there was no risk to the children outside because they were in the line-of-sight of the care provider and concluded no criminal offence was committed.
