Prince George man arrested for liquor store robbery

Police say a suspect was taken into custody after a robbery at a liquor store in Prince George.

In a release, the Prince George RCMP say they received reports of a man who appeared to be carrying a firearm on Weidbrod Road close to the Hart Highway after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Mounties say a second report was received about the same suspect had robbed a liquor store along Nordic Drive.

“Frontline police immediately attended the area and located the suspect near the liquor store, where he fled, brandishing a weapon at police as they followed on foot,” Mounties said.

Police say the suspect then ran into a local convenience store, and a police officer equipped with a “conducted energy weapon” reported on the scene and used the device, stopping the suspect from running away and taking him into police custody.

They say he will remain in custody until he can go to court.

Mounties said a school in the area was also informed about police action and followed their safety protocols while the event unfolded.

Media Relations Officer for Prince George RCMP Cpl. Jennifer Cooper said frontline police officers worked quickly to get a hold of the man and maintain public safety.

“Fifteen minutes elapsed from the time we received the first 9-1-1 call to the time the suspect was taken into custody,” she said.

Mounties say the suspect sustained minor injuries during the incident. He was medically cleared at the hospital after his arrest.

They say there were no other injuries, and the investigation continues.
