Man charged in relation to fatal 2023 Burnaby crash

A 32-year-old man has been charged in connection to a fatal crash in Burnaby last year.

The Burnaby RCMP says the crash happened near Hastings Street and Willingdon Avenue just before 5 a.m., on July 19, 2023.

A woman, who was a passenger in a Toyota Supra, was killed, while two others were injured when the vehicle collided with a silver-grey Chevrolet Silverado.

As of Sept. 10, Mounties say 32-year-old Kolton Lockyer is facing the following charges:

  • Criminal negligence causing death
  • Criminal negligence causing bodily harm
  • Operation at or over 80 miligrams [of an unamed substance], causing death
  • Operation at or over 80 miligrams [of an unamed substance], causing bodily harm
  • Impaired operation causing death
  • Impaired operation causing bodily harm

Police say he is also facing one count of failing to stop at an accident, related to a hit-and-run in Vancouver before the deadly crash.

“This is an extremely tragic event, but we hope this process can help bring some healing to the family and friends of the victim,” said Insp. Peri Mainwaring.

Lockyer is due back in court on Oct. 10th.
