Wind storm knocked thousands off BC Hydro grid

Thursday night’s wind storm was still having an impact as people woke up on Friday.

Thousands of BC Hydro customers were knocked off the power grid in Metro Vancouver overnight.

Almost all of them were caught up in an outage that stretched from Highway 1 and 176th Street in Surrey, to 208th Street and 72nd Avenue in Langley.

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a wind warning for multiple regions across B.C. Thursday, as the remnants of Typhoon Pulasan crossed over the coast.

ECCC was expecting winds of 90 kilometres per hour gusting to 120 km/h overnight for some areas under the warning.

Hundreds of hydro customers on Vancouver Island and Sunshine Coast were also impacted.
