Coquitlam RCMP confirms youth hospitalized in stabbing near Terry Fox Secondary School

The Coquitlam RCMP is seeking witnesses to a youth stabbing near Terry Fox Secondary School that happened on Monday afternoon.
Mounties say they responded to reports of a stabbing near 1269 Riverside Drive in Port Coquitlam just after 2:45 p.m.
In an update Tuesday afternoon, police said one youth victim was transported to hospital by paramedics for non-life-threatening injuries.

“Three youth suspects dressed in all black are believed to have fled in a black sedan,” said Corp. Alexa Hodgins.
She says the park was “heavily populated” at the time and is asking anyone with footage or information to come forward.
Those in the area of Terry Fox Park near Riverside Drive and Po Avenue between 2:15 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Monday are asked to contact the Coquitlam RCMP and quote file number 2024-27958.
Aida Aminzai, a parent of a student who goes to Terry Fox Secondary, told 1130 NewsRadio although she has not heard of many conflicts yet, the school does have “a bit of a reputation” for fights breaking out.
“As a mom, most schools these days don’t feel safe… Friends who have gone here before told me about the school and that it usually has fights,” she said.
Aminzai says following this incident she is definitely concerned for the safety of her child.
“I wouldn’t want an RCMP presence at all times at the school, because I think that’s intimidating to get, but unfortunately it feels like we do need some kind of security to keep an eye on kids who are reoccurring troublemakers.”
She says instead of increasing police patrol, it is important to “get to the core” of the problem through counselling.
“There’s something going on with these kids, either at home or in their lifestyle that is contributing to their anger,” the concerned mother said.
