B.C. businesswoman Faye Leung, also known as the ‘Hat Lady,’ dies at 92

A flamboyant B.C. businesswoman, known for her colourful hats and her dealings with a former B.C. premier, has passed away.

Faye Leung — also known as the Hat Lady — passed away peacefully in Vancouver Nov. 1, according to a Facebook post.

While she was dubbed the Hat Lady for her colourful head coverings, she will go down in B.C. history for her dealings with Premier Bill Vander Zalm while she worked as a real estate.

In the early 1990s, Leung brokered a deal to sell Vander Zalm’s Fantasy Gardens — a Biblical theme park in Richmond — triggering a conflict-of-interest investigation, ultimately leading to Vander Zalm’s resignation.

Leung was 92.
