Driver charged after rolled semi-truck forced closure of HWY 1 for hours

The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) says a driver has been charged after a rolled semi-truck forced the closure of Highway 1 near Chilliwack for hours on Friday.

Police say the driver lost control as the vehicle was descending a westbound curve. The rollover caused debris to spread across the highway, and police say another vehicle later collided with the debris.

The BCHP says no injuries were reported.

Callers to 1130 NewsRadio first reported the crash around 6:10 a.m. on Nov. 8. The road began to reopen in the afternoon.

In an update Wednesday, the BCHP says the driver of the semi-truck, a 28-year-old Alberta man, has now been issued a ticket for driving without due care and attention.

“The offence comes with a fine of $368.00 and six points against the driver’s licence,” Mounties said.
