The Squamish RCMP has confirmed that one person is dead after a base jumping accident earlier this week.
Authorities were called on Thursday to the west side of the Stawamus Chief in Squamish where a base jumper had crashed into trees near the top of the “apron,” a popular spot for rock climbing.
“RCMP, Search and Rescue, and Emergency Health Services (EHS) all attended the scene,” police said.
“Sadly, the person was located deceased.”
Base jumping is an activity where people jump from fixed objects like cliffs, bridges, or buildings and use a parachute for landing.
The BC Coroners’ Service is now investigating the incident.
