3 removed from fiery crash on HWY 17 early Saturday after car hits pole

Three people — including a child — were inside a car that hit a pole and caught fire on Highway 17 just under the Port Mann Bridge early Saturday, officers in Surrey say.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) says emergency crews were called to the scene just after 1:30 a.m.

“BC RCMP Surrey Police Operations Support Unit officers responded and found that the three occupants, two adults and one child, had been pulled from the car by a Good Samaritan,” the SPS said.

“The two adults were transported to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, and the child was examined by BC EHS and is with family.”

Highway 17 remained closed for several hours after the crash and reopened shortly after 9 a.m.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have dashcam footage or more information is asked to call the SPS at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2025-1897 (SU).
