Rainfall warning in place for parts of Metro Vancouver

Environment and Climate Change Canada issued a rainfall warning for parts of Metro Vancouver on Wednesday, as the region is set to see up to 70 millimetres of rain.

1130 NewsRadio Meteorologist Michael Kuss says that while Wednesday morning has yet to produce more than 20 mm, the day will bring heavy rain to areas up against the mountains, like the North Shore, the Tri-Cities, and out to Maple Ridge.

“The rain is going to taper, but it’s wet into the afternoon, for sure,” he explained.

“Daytime highs are warmer, nine degrees, drops to five overnight,” Kuss said, adding that the rain is expected to be heavy again into the weekend.

In its warning, ECCC says heavy rain is also expected for the Howe Sound, stretching to Squamish.

“The heaviest rain will taper off overnight tonight as the low weakens and pushes inland. Scattered showers will persist through Thursday,” it stated.

“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible. Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks, and culverts.”
