Woman charged in connection with fatal 2024 West Vancouver crash

Charges have been laid in connection with a fatal head-on crash in West Vancouver last year.

Shortly before midnight on June 26, 2024, a vehicle travelling east in the westbound lanes on Highway 1 near Westport Road caused a head-on collision.

Two men, aged 20 and 21, were killed in the crash. Two other people were seriously injured.

25-year-old Melesesh Sahalo of Vancouver has been charged with two counts of dangerous operations of a conveyance causing death and two counts of dangerous operations of a conveyance causing bodily harm.

“This was a detailed and lengthy investigation into a terribly tragic event, and we are pleased to have charges sworn,” said Sgt. John McCormack. “We extend our deepest sympathies to the survivors and to the family and friends of those who were killed that day.”

Sahalo is scheduled to appear in North Vancouver Provincial Court on Feb. 26.
