Amtrak trains between Vancouver and Oregon taken out of service temporarily, effective immediately

A popular passenger train between British Columbia and Oregon has been reduced to bus service for the time being.

Amtrak says nearly all passenger cars on its Cascade route in the Pacific Northwest have been taken off the tracks.

“Amtrak has determined its fleet of Horizon trainsets will immediately be taken out of service due to identified concerns with this aging equipment,” the service announced this week.

“A total of 70 passenger cars across the country are affected, including 26 cars on the Amtrak Cascades route.”

This leaves just one train on the route, operating between Seattle and Eugene.

The company says it is actively working to redistribute trains from its national fleet onto the Pacific Northwest route.

New trainsets will be coming in 2026. The service has released images of the new trains, which include upgraded seats in the business and coach cars and a new look for the cafe cars.
