BC Emergency Health Services says it was called to the scene just before 12:20 p.m.

“Paramedics assessed a total of four patients, providing emergency medical treatment to 3 patients. Two patients were transported to hospital in serious condition and one patient was transported to hospital in stable condition,” said Brian Twaites with BC EHS.

Cpl. Mike Kalanj of the Burnaby RCMP tells 1130 NewsRadio that the pedestrian suffered “some pretty serious injuries.”

Images from the scene show emergency crews surrounding two sedans, an SUV, and a semi truck.

Mounties say the intersection is closed in all directions as police investigate the crash. Kalanj says police are gathering dashcam footage and witness statements, but it’s still early in the investigation.

“Just avoid the area altogether. You’re going to be turned around, and we will potentially be there for a few hours into the afternoon commute,” said Kalanj.

In an update shortly after 7 p.m., TransLink said the intersection had cleared.

Drivers can still expect congestion in the area.
