Man charged, suspected of biting off Vancouver security guard’s fingertip

Vancouver police say a 62-year-old security guard had his fingertip bitten off in a violent confrontation downtown last week.

Police say they were called to respond to an assault in progress on Thursday, April 10, around 10:30 a.m. outside Granville Square near West Cordova Street.

The VPD says the victim was working as a security guard when he encountered the suspect in a plaza outside the building.

“Following a brief interaction, the victim was allegedly assaulted and sustained a severed fingertip,” said a VPD release Monday.

The victim was taken to hospital, and police officers arrested a suspect nearby.

A 32-year-old man is now facing one count of aggravated assault.

The suspect will reportedly remain in custody until his next court appearance on Wednesday.
