Police say three alleged sexual assaults aboard Metro Vancouver public transit early last year have been linked to the same man.
A 55-year-old Surrey man is facing charges related to incidents on SkyTrains from January to May 2024.
The Metro Vancouver Transit Police (MVTP) say the first of the three incidents was reported on Jan 25, 2024.
“A man was reported to have made inappropriate physical contact with a woman while on board a crowded Canada Line train,” said police.
On April 11, 2024, a witness reported seeing a man standing “suspiciously close to” and leaning inappropriately on an unidentified teenage passenger on board a Canada Line train.
On May 9, 2024, a woman reported feeling someone pressing into her several times as she was standing on a crowded Expo Line train.
“She turned around to confront the suspect, who fled the train at the next stop.”
In an update Tuesday, police say detectives have linked the incidents to the same suspect, who is now facing three counts of sexual assault.
The suspect has reportedly been released until his next court appearance on certain conditions, including restricting his access to public transit.
Anyone who experiences or witnesses a crime on or near transit is asked to report it to Transit Police by calling 604-515-8300 or texting 87-77-77 for non-emergencies.
