Grouse Grind opens for 2025 season Friday

Rise and grind — Metro Vancouver says the notoriously challenging Grouse Grind Trail will reopen for the season Friday morning.

This season, the district says hikers will notice a 150-metre stretch of the trail, between the half and three-quarter marks, has been rebuilt to make the trail safer and more sustainable.

Metro Vancouver is reminding hopeful grinders to be prepared by packing water, a snack, a cellphone, and sturdy footwear before braving the infamous trail.

“It’s important to be in good physical shape to tackle the trail and people with any health issues, like high blood pressure and heart problems, or breathing problems such as asthma, are advised not to attempt the steep climb,” the district added.

In September, Metro Vancouver installed defibrillators at every quarter mark along the trail in case of emergency.

Hikers are being reminded that the Grind is a one-way path and dogs are not allowed.

“The Grouse Mountain Resort Skyride and Gondola or the BCMC Route are the only downhill options.”

Located in Grouse Mountain Regional Park, the trail attracts 250,000 visitors per year, despite its notorious difficulty.

Starting Friday, the trail will open daily from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
