“Including the change in gas prices in Vancouver during the past week, prices yesterday were 39.1 c/L lower than the same day one year ago and are 11.3 c/L lower than a month ago,” GasBuddy explained. “The national average has decreased 3.4 c/L during the last month and stands 33.1 c/L lower than this day one year ago.”

On Monday, the average price of a litre of regular gas across B.C. was $1.522.

“Last week brought modest changes at the pump across most of Canada, with the national average seeing little movement— most provinces recorded declines of less than half a cent per litre,” Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said.

“British Columbia was the notable exception, where prices jumped 4.1 cents per litre due to refinery issues on the U.S. West Coast that tightened supply. Meanwhile, there may be some encouraging short-term news globally, as OPEC+ has agreed to increase oil production starting in June.

“Oil prices continue to hover near their lowest levels since the pandemic, and while gasoline inventories have been tightening due to ongoing refinery maintenance, that pressure should ease in the coming weeks. As refiners return to full capacity, Canadians may see more noticeable declines at the pump heading into June — especially if oil prices remain soft and global supply grows,” he added.
