There are even more reasons to watch your speed and not to touch your phone if you’re behind the wheel on Tuesday.
The Surrey Police Service, Delta Police, Metro Vancouver Transit Police, and ICBC are partnering on a one-day crackdown on speeding and distracted driving.
SPS Staff Sgt. Lindsay Houghton tells 1130 NewsRadio that ‘Project Swoop’ is well-advertised with extra signs, volunteers, and speed indicators.

Project Swoop is part of a province-wide campaign targeting drivers.
Houghton explains that police around B.C. just wanted drivers to ease up on the gas pedal and pay attention.
“We’re coming upon the busy summer season, and within weeks, kids are going to be out of school. We’re going to have little kids on bikes, crossing sidewalks, playing in playgrounds,” he said.
“Give yourself some extra time. Slow down. We want everyone to get safely to their destination.”
He adds that drivers are often surprised when they get pulled over.
“Our traffic officers have heard every excuse in the book. If we can prevent one fatal collision this year. It’s all worth it for us,” he said.
