Abbotsford teen stabbing victim identified; 2 arrested teens cleared

Investigators are sharing the identity of the victim of a fatal stabbing in Abbotsford-- and say two people who were initially arrested in the incident -- have since been released. Kier Junos reports.

Homicide investigators have identified the teenage victim of a deadly stabbing in Abbotsford on Sunday.

The Abbotsford Police Department says it was called to Larch Park off Beck Road near Sumas Way and Old Yale Road just after 7:30 p.m. on May 25.

“Upon arrival, officers located a male youth suffering from critical, life-threatening injuries. Despite the immediate efforts of bystanders and first responders, the youth tragically succumbed to his injuries,” said Sgt. Paul Walker in a statement.

Police originally said two teenagers were arrested at the scene, but, in an update Tuesday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says the pair have since been cleared of any suspicion and have been released to their parents.

Sgt. Freda Fong confirmed to 1130 NewsRadio that an altercation with a group of youth did occur before the stabbing but says police arrested the wrong suspects.

She declined to say if the victim knew the initial suspects or any of the group members.

Hoping to advance the investigation, IHIT identified the 15-year-old victim as Billy Ledoux.

“We believe there are individuals who know what happened to Billy and we are asking them to do the right thing by contacting IHIT,” said Fong.

Anyone who was in the Larch Park area between 6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., or who may have dashcam footage is urged to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.

Billy’s eldest sister started a fundraiser to help support the family through its loss Monday. She says Billy’s “love and big heart” will never be forgotten by his parents and seven siblings.
