(Editor’s note: a previous version of this story had incorrectly identified the timing of the incident. Per an IIO update provided July 18, it occurred at 11:30 p.m. on July 10.)
The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO) says it is investigating an arrest in Vancouver that resulted in one man being injured on July 10.
The VPD says it responded to a report of man allegedly breaking into Denman Place Mall at Denman and Nelson streets around 11:30 p.m.
“When officers arrived, they arrested one man and took him to the Vancouver Jail, where he was seen by a nurse and subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment,” the IIO said.
The IIO is called in after any police-related incidents that result in death or serious injury, whether or not there are any allegations of wrongdoing.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have video footage is asked the call the IIO Witness Line at 1-855-446-8477.
