Upon arrival, the officers reportedly saw a man with a weapon. He was shot shortly after.

According to police, paramedics tried to revive the man, but he died at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

Neighbours tell CityNews that they heard a dispute between two people before police arrived.

“My son said that he heard a man saying, ‘Okay, call the cops.’ And the next thing you know, cops were called, and two cops went inside. And then just, not even like two minutes after that, there was five or six times gunshots,” one resident said.

Another neighbour objected to the police officers’ use of force in the incident.

The VPD says it has notified the Independent Investigations Office of BC, which will be investigating the shooting.
