Pemberton woman attacked by black bear

A woman escaped with only minor injuries Tuesday after being attacked by a black bear north of Whistler.

The BC Conservation Officer Service (COS) says the woman was walking her dog in some tall grass on her rural property in Pemberton when she startled the bear.

“The bear bit and scratched the woman before it disengaged,” said a COS post to social media.

The woman received medical treatment for non-life-threatening injuries, and her dog was not injured.

Based on the defensive nature of the attack and the rural location, officers aren’t trying to track down the bear.

The COS is reminding people to take precautions around bears, including making noise and keeping pets on a leash.

You can report aggressive bear behaviour to the RAPP line at 1-877-952-7277.
