Worker injured after crane incident in Vancouver’s West End

A construction worker was “significantly” injured while working on a crane in Vancouver’s West End Thursday afternoon, Vancouver Fire Rescue Service (VFRS) tells 1130 NewsRadio.
The incident occurred just before 2:30 p.m. at a construction site located at Thurlow and Harwood.
“They were replacing a section of the crane… an operation that they do during the construction of the building,” said acting Asst. Chief Wes Abrams. “There’s a worker who was in the mast of the crane and was struck by a [power] cord and sustained a significant injury to his leg.”
The VFRS Technical Rescue team ascended the crane to treat and rescue the man where the incident occurred, more than 200 feet in the air.
“They’re currently packaging up and getting lines in place, and then he will be lowered down the side of the mast,” Abrams said shortly before 4 p.m.
The scene has since been cleared.
BC Emergency Health Services(BCEHS) attended to take control of the patient and bring him to hospital.
