The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) says a man has been arrested and charged in connection to a Maple Ridge missing persons case that has turned into a homicide investigation.

The team has confirmed the investigation involves the disappearance of 43-year-old Jessica Cunningham, who was last seen in June and was reported missing in July.

Police say they found human remains at a home on Aug. 26, and while the identity of those remains hasn’t been confirmed yet, Mylie Barron has been charged with indignity to human remains and is in custody. IHIT confirms that the victim and suspect were in an intimate relationship. No date of death has been confirmed.

The home, located near Gillis Place and Harrison, has been cordoned off for the past two days, with a forensics tarp set up outside.

“Investigators are working diligently to understand the circumstances surrounding Jessica’s disappearance,” said Staff. Sgt. David Lee, IHIT media relations officer.

“Investigators are releasing her name and photo and seeking assistance to build a timeline of her activity leading up to the missing persons report.”
