3 arrested, 730 stolen mail pieces seized in police search of Surrey homes

Police arrested three people amid searches of Surrey homes that turned up over 700 pieces of mail believed to be stolen from a Port Moody residential building.

In late July, the Port Moody Police Department asked for the public’s help identifying a trio accused of entering Suter Brook Village near the intersection of Murray Street and Ioco Road on July 11. CCTV cameras caught them allegedly prying open mailboxes in a mail room and “making off with mail.”

The three were also suspected of a series of break-ins in storage lockers and vehicles in the same building.

On Aug. 28, the PMPD executed search warrants at two Surrey residences.

“During the search, officers seized about 730 parcels, packages, and pieces of mail destined for Port Moody and other local areas. Officers seized numerous other items like building fobs, keys, security passes, jewelry and a firefighter badge,” said a statement Thursday.

Three people were arrested during the searches. Const. Sam Zacharias confirmed to 1130 NewsRadio that police believe the three arrested suspects are the same people as sought in July.

He says all three have been released while the matter remains under investigation and police recommend charges.

Zacharias urges residents to collect their own mail and check on storage lockers regularly. He says building administrators should conduct fob audits amid an “uptick” in reported mail theft and storage locker break-ins.
